Pál Csergezán (1924-1996) | Secret moments from the wilderness | Anniversary exhibition
2024. February 15. - March 17.Pál Csergezán was born the 28 June, 1924 in Záhony, just 100 years ago. Already at the age of fifteen, he attended the school for applied arts in Budapest, in architecture, over three years. He graduated in 1953 at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in graphical art, as a scholar of Jenő Barcsay, Sándor Ék and György Kádár. He has been working as a graphic artist, illustrator, but his main topic was the wildlife. He mostly depicted it in hyperrealistic details with oil paint in a naturalistic style, which brings life to his fascinating animal figures. Who wouldn't be captivated by the sight of a stag bellowing in the autumn fog, or a wild boar riding in the snow? The roe hiding in the grass, the herd grazing in the field, this is the special world of wild animals which are living in nature. "He was devoted to the love for animals and the passion for nature", We can read on the website of the foundation that bears his name. He is acknowledged as one of the most thorough observers of wildlife and as an excellent portrayer of movement. Seeing his paintings we can almost feel the silence of the forest, where we are waiting to an appearance for a magnificent wild animal. Csergezán was waiting for these moments walking through the forests and fields. His atelier was the nature, the animal’s kingdom was very close to him. Next to the wilds and birds, he was also a big fun of the horses. He was living in Germany too where he got to know the Austrian-German-Swiss hunting culture well. Thanks to his success abroad, he was asked to be the the court painter of the Iranian Shah, there he often depicted the local wildlife of the continent. His artworks are rarely on the artmarket, this pieces of our chamber exhibition came from a Hungarian and a belgian private collection and are available to purchase. His drawings, etchings, oil paintings and pastels are mostly in private collections, also therefore this exhibition is special.
