Description

Between trees with huge branches emerges a frontage of an Italian villa. Stone stairs direct up to the columned renaissance entrance. The villa’s door is decorated with a shell shaped ornament and above it there is a tall building with arch.
The building is just a background for the sketched face in front of it. In the middle of the picture a beetle brows man’s head appears and his eyes, nose and mouth lines give the branches of the trees. The portrait fades into the natural surroundings and like it floats above it and looks at the sky.
By follow his shoulder there are some statue trunks at the two sides in the foreground of the picture. They are covered by tree bines and roots of the garden. Lowest down in the grass on the picture there is a heavy stone board with Latin script on it with the name of the building.
On the artwork we are near Rome in Tivoli by István Orosz graphic artist where in a garden between fountains and waterfalls the Este-villa stands. Above the Grecian-Roman group of statue is drawn out the 19th century’s most famous composer’s face: Ferenc Liszt. The monuments in the forefront and the trees are black and white however the emphatic parts for example Ferenc Liszt’s face and the entrance gate are pale reddish-blueish toned.
It is a real Bravour how the composer’s portrait becomes visible.
The “TivoLiszt” is a play on words: Tivoli and Liszt names put together like the picture shows an overlapping. Liszt spent lot of time in that villa in Tivoli which inspired him to compose. The montage implies to the connection between the composer and the place.
This artwork is one piece of the “Hidden faces” series. He salutes before old big masters like the Italian Giueseppe Archiboldo in 16th century who built his grotesque head forms from plants and tree roots.
The “Tivoliszt” is full of art historical hints: the trunks covered by plants reflect the Renaissance Platonist approaches where the nature “creates” statues by follow the creator’s fantasy and after the time passing possesses them again.
The Liszt portrait came to existence the same way by our fantasy. And also the saluting in front of the composer whose music compositions stand the test of the time.
