Biography
Ernő Tóth was born in Sajóecseg (village in northern Hungary) in 1949. Between 1964 and 1968 he studied at the Fine Arts Secondary School, than in 1974-79 he attended at the Hungarian College of Fine Arts, where Szilárd Iván, Jenő Barcsay and László Patay were his teachers. He is a member of the National Association of Hungarian Artists, the Hungarian Artists Association, the Hungarian Society of Painters, the ‘DunapART’ Arts Society, the Downtown Association of Artists and the Association of Hungarian Art Workshop as well.
After graduating from the secondary art school, he worked at the scene-painter's workshop of the Opera House, and it has great improve on his painting approach up to the present day. Previously, he painted mythological, historical or Commedia dell'arte scenes, which were composed into stage-like landscapes, but it has gradually been replaced by the grotesque symbolism. He creates grotesque tone bronze sculptures in the recent years.
He took study trips in France, the US, in Netherlands, Yugoslavia, and in Bulgaria. With his works he regularly participated in exhibitions besides to Hungary in Sweden, Finland, France, Austria, and also in Germany. He won several prizes on various domestic and international exhibitions. His works can be found in a number of foreign private collections (for example in the US, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Canada), and several domestic public collection guard his works.
