Imre Vinczellér - Light, Sound, Colour
2011. March 10. - March 27.We cannot think differently than we position ourselves in relation to our own past, Schiller once wrote. This thought can be applied to the painter Imre Vinczellér, for whom the family tradition and memories in the frame of the middle-class pattern of life played a major role in his oeuvre so far. He is known in the Hungarian as well as the foreign art scene, his artworks, acknowledged through several awards, represent a characteristic world of themes, with his individual technique of painting.
Music is a recurring leitmotiv in his works, the references to instruments. Thus, his paintings can be understood as a visual impression of the liaison with fine arts and music. In his works, realism and surrealism bond in a particular way, the world of the objects we protect in our experiences, our memories, as well as the visions we connect to them. The old times full of harmony are confronted with the present, often bearing dissonances. At times, the conductor hushes the orchestra, the instruments fell silent. Lights, colours and images take their place in Imre Vinczellér’s works from the last decade - in their very unique atmosphere.
