Biography
Biography
With their thorough details, Sándor Badacsonyi's graphics remind us of the old masters. His compositions are well structured. Badacsonyi combines classical methods of depiction, characterized by a richness in perspective, with modern, surrealist solutions. His traditional symbolic references are complemented or changed by the spectator's free imagination.
The individual motives are combined through unusual associations. Coulisse-like interiors and imaginary landscapes surround his portrayed characters, imaginary creatures, and objects. From time to time, Badacsonyi gives way to his irony, and his figures often take on a grotesque shape. His objects and characters go through metamorphosis. The floating figures become united with their environment. Badacsonyi's depicted themes are often derived from classical, biblical and literary sources, but we can also find musical motifs in his art. His moralizing intention is evident; his depictions refer to the destruction of nature, the failure of man, and the transience of time.
