Czene, Béla Bathing nudes
Description
In his style, Béla Czene found the direction of the Roman School at a very early stage; his art was most closely connected to the classical traditions of the Renaissance and to Greco-Roman heritage. In the delicately drawn composition, we see a group of bathing nudes. The sketch-like figures wash themselves in the water with evident pleasure, while one of their companions, already cleansed, rests on the shore.
This work is a preparatory study by the artist for his piece titled “Bathing Nudes,” which is housed in the National Gallery (inventory number: FK7371).
