Pygmalion is a famous cypriote sculptor from Ovid's narrative poem „Metamorphoses”, in which he falls in love with a statue he had carved out of marble. The gods had mercy on him and the sculpure gets alive – we do see here in Schauer's work the exact moment when an angel puts a soul in the work, symbolized through a butterfly. This extraordinary detailed work is made with the difficult watercolour technique.
