Biography
Fülöp Ö. Beck was a prominent figure of modern Hungarian sculpting. He graduated from the Academy of Applied Arts in Budapest in 1893. In 1984, he went to Paris on a French scholarship. In 1895, he studied with Ponscarme at the "École des Beaux-Arts".
Fülöp Ö. Beck was the first sculptor to have an individual medal exhibition in Hungary, which was presented at the Museum of Applied Arts. In 1990 he was awarded the Silver Medal at the "Exposition Universelle" world fair in Paris, and in 1906 he recieved the Grand Prix in Milano.
He went on educational trips to Italy and Germany. In these years his focus started to shift towards sculpting.
From 1910, he worked in his atelier in Göd. In 1914, Beck organized his first individual sculpture exhibition at the Ernst Museum. In 1922 he exhibited another large collection at he same place.
His main work, "Aphrodite", was completed in 1915. In 1927, Beck recieved the Grand Prize of the Szinyei Society.
Later in his life he also worked on decorative sculptures, funerary monuments, public sculptures and sculpture portraits.
