Biography
András Kiss Nagy was born in 1930 in Pusztaföldvár (village in Békés counties). Between 1948 and 1950 he was the student of the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts. Between 1951 and 1956 he continued his studies at the the Repin Academy in Saint Petersburg. In 1957 he graduated in the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts, where Sándor Mikus and Pál Patzay were his teachers. He went study trip to Italy, France and Sweden.
In 1956 and 1970 he got Munkácsy-award, in 1967 he got the First National Biennial prize, in 1971 he got the main prize of the International Statuette Biennale in Budapest. In 1972 he was honored as merited artist, in 1975 he got the Kossuth award and also the Civitas Fidelissima medal.
He became famous with “the Flute” statue, which was his diploma work, and he won the first prize on the Young Artists Studio exhibition with it. After his studies he found his own style earliest in the medal art. In the 60s and 70s he became one of the most important representatives of the Hungarian medal art.
