Mattioni, Eszter Morning table

Description
Eszter Mattioni studied at the College of Applied Arts and then at the College of Fine Arts, was inspired by Hungarian folk art and folk costumes. An interesting addition to her life is that Sándor Petőfi (who was a famous Hungarian poet) wrote the poem "Négyökrös szekér" (Four-Wheeled Chariot) to her grandmother, Erzsike Sass. Mattioni's art was influenced by the style and approach of Vilmos Aba-Novák, Aurél Bernáth, and Pál Pátzay. Her composition "At the Breakfast Table" made with watercolors on paper evokes the visual world of some of Bernáth's works. We see a woman working over a kitchen sink. Standing with her back to the kitchen, she washes the plates and mugs left after breakfast. Both her figure and the kitchen and utensils around her are brightly colored, painted in spots with delicate, glazed strokes. In the figurative painting with its constructive composition, we see a simple, everyday scene, which is made so special by its plein-air-like freshness, the "clash" of cheerful colors, and the fresh play of light in the morning.
