Iván Szkok received the Mihály Munkácsy Award in March 2023.
In his works, he combines elements of painting and sculpture. At the beginning of his career, he worked with oil on canvas, but even then he was active in multiple artistic disciplines (such as tapestry and sculpture). In addition to his oil paintings, his mixed-media works—created with plaster, tempera, and polyester—are also outstanding. One such piece is the relief painting titled "Summer Embrace", which depicts a man and a woman merging with the surrounding nature. It appears as if they are immersed in a cooling, crystal-clear greenish-blue "water," whose surface reflects golden yellow lights. Yet, Szkok’s work is not characterized solely by this summery impression. What makes the expressive relief truly special is the spatial impact of the figures.
