Gerzson, Pál Summer lights

Gerzson, Pál: Summer lights
Private collection Hungary

Description

Pál Gerzson was a versatile artist, as in addition to painting he also dealt with mural works (gobleins) and graphics. His creative career unfolded in the 1950s, and his paintings, based on landscape experience, gradually broke with the faithful capture of reality. His planar compositions based on the laws of geometry are mostly high-quality attempts to relive the color and light problems of European painting and to solve them in a modern way. The works of Pál Gerzson have been characterized by a kind of cubist painting since the 1960s, and from 1969 his painting was decisively renewed, after spending the summers in the beautiful Szigliget. From the mid-1970s onwards, Gerzson abstracted his specific landscape experiences and the color and light problems that defined him throughout his art into flat compositions, and the product of this “vein” is “Summer Lights”.
His work, which consists of geometric bodies: rectangles, circles and semi-articles, shows his cubist image, but at the same time the composition shows the traces of the blurred pink, purple and blue spots in Szigliget, when Gerzson spent a lot of time on the shores of Lake Balaton and studied water.
His quality work can also be interpreted as a fictional depiction of nature, as a landscape that is both light and expressive.
